Wedding Portrait
1980
Photograph on paper

This is a photograph taken at my aunt Christine’s and uncle Bill’s wedding in North Carolina by their family friend Mr. Tom. Digital cameras were not invented until the 1990s and my aunt and uncle married in 1980, so Mr. Tom used a portable roll film-based camera. According to my aunt Rochelle, the picture was taken after the ceremony. They are shown exchanging their  rings. Looking at the photograph today, my memory recall is activated and I feel the warmth of my aunt’s presence and of our special relationship. To me, the photograph represents a commitment, a promise, a fulfillment of a vow in dedication of their wedding.
